Brean mud rescue: Fire crews rescue lady and dog stuck in River Axe

-

A lady and her dog were rescued from mud in the River Axe estuary at a holiday park in Brean on Saturday evening (July 21st).

Fire crews and the ambulance service, Burnham Coastguards and BARB Search & Rescue were called to Brean’s Diamond Farm Holiday Park in Weston Road just before 10pm.

A lady had got into difficulty while attempting to reach her dog in the river mud near to Brean Cross Sluice, as pictured here.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “One fire appliance from Burnham, one from Bridgwater and the special rescue team from Bridgwater were mobilised to reports of a female and a dog trapped in mud.”

“Crews assisted with the rescue of both the female and the dog using water rescue equipment.”

“The female casualty was checked over by ambulance crews at the scene.”

A Burnham Coastguard spokesman added: “There were reports that a lady had been out for a walk with her dogs and they had become stuck. Trying to help them, she then became stuck too.”

“When we arrived the fire service was already on scene and awaiting their specialist rescue team from Bridgwater.”

“Our Burnham Coastguard mud technicians were poised and ready to gear up to effect a mud rescue when our Officer In Charge was told the lady had made her way to safety and was helped back to one of the Fire Units for medical assessment.”

“With this news, we halted our actions and were able to relax. Our flank team from Weston were arriving on the scene as we always keep any mobilised assets moving in case the situation changes.”

“This was a very good multi-agency job that thankfully didn’t require full intervention from the rescue teams attending.”

Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue was also called to assist with its hovercraft and inflatable rescue platforms if needed.
