Burnham-On-Sea’s Independent Market set to be held for the final time this Friday

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Independent Market is set to be held for the final time this Friday (April 25th) as organisers say it is closing.

The markets were launched in June 2023, as pictured, in the Baptist Church Hall in Burnham’s College Street to replace the Farmers Markets which had become unviable.

Now, though, organiser Julie Dean says she has taken the decision to stop the independent markets and this week’s event will be the final one.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was saved from closure before and taken inside the Baptist Church Hall which was better than being outside in all weathers.”

“However, footfall has decreased since January, with costs going up for everyone, including the cost of hiring the hall.”

“A lack of footfall this year so far has consequently had a detrimental effect on the traders, some of whom travelled as far away as Bath to attend. This Friday’s final market will be held this Friday from 9am-1pm.”

Julie adds that she will be continuing the successful Burnham and Berrow Makers Markets. The next Berrow Makers Market will be held this Saturday at Berrow Village Hall from 10am-3pm.
