Burnham-On-Sea tourism businesses have seen a ‘mostly positive’ start to the new tourist season.
Mixed weather over the Easter holiday fortnight led to varying footfall in the town, with some businesses reporting a busy period of trade.
Burnham’s seafront car parks were at full capacity on Easter Sunday while beaches in Burnham and Brean saw hundreds of visitors – but there were also quieter periods of wet weather.
Karl Rawlins, owner of Burnham seafront ice cream shop Little Italy On Sea, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a mostly positive start to the season with good ice cream sales for us. We just hope for good weather!”
Burnham’s tourist information centre welcomed many visitors over the holiday period and manager Ian Jefferies said: “It’s been a solid start to the season. There have been some good days over Easter when it’s been as busy as a summer day for us.”
Husband and wife Harry and Shirley Bird, who run Hazza Vapes and Shirley’s Sparkles on the seafront, add: “When the sun’s out, we’re busy – we’ve been run ragged at times during the busier spells. Overall it’s been a positive start to the year.”
Monika Morris at GW Hurley said trade has been “very mixed” over the Easter period, with the changeable weather. Carrie-Anne Davies at Carrie-Anne’s gift shop adds “it’s been generally good,” with a particularly busy Easter Saturday.
And Satnam Singh at Burnham Shopping Centre said the Easter period had been “busier than usual” with a good Easter holiday of trade.
Mike Bond at The Esplanade Fish Bar adds: “It’s not been a bad start to the new season – it’s been busy at times, but I think overall it’s not been quite as good as last Easter.”
It comes as holiday parks in Burnham-On-Sea, Berrow and Brean are also reporting busy forward accommodation bookings for the summer season ahead.
