Burnham-On-Sea Heritage Group has launched a new booklet featuring historic photos of Burnham and Highbridge during WWII.
The 24-page publication has been published to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day in May.
“The leaflet features many local photos of wartime in the two towns, plus defence volunteers, ID cards, street parties plus local war fundraising, a feature on Frank Foley, and wartime shops in Burnham – it makes a very timely, interesting read,” says the group’s Ann Popham.
The booklet has been produced by Burnham Heritage Group with the support of Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.
Copies of the booklet are available with donations requested due to the high cost of producing them.
They are available in Burnham from the Handbag Shop, Burnham’s tourist information centre on the seafront, the Indoor Market jewellery shop, and Super Chips.
On 8th May 2025, the UK will mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day as the nation unites to celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe. VE Day 80 will be a tribute to those who fought for freedom.
