Community-spirited Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge students at King Alfred School Academy have ended the term by handing donations of non-perishable food items and personal care products to the town’s Foodbank.
Students, parents and carers, and staff have demonstrated great generosity by rallying together to collect non-perishable food items, personal care products, and other essential items to donate to the Trussell Trust Food Bank in Highbridge and Burnham.
Prefects, Sixth Form students and staff stood at each entrance gate with trolleys collecting the items in all weathers and the response was overwhelming.
Teacher Mr Smith say he believes the food bank is extremely important because people “need our support at Christmas”. He explained that there are currently more food banks than McDonalds branches acros tghe UK, which highlights the need for giving and generosity. And teacher Mr Shepherd added that he is “very proud” of the response from the school community.
Mr Milford and Mr Shepherd handed over all of the items on Wednesday 20th December – there were dozens of crates and boxes which filled two vehicles.
Mr Milford addde: “Thank you to all staff and students who contributed – what we have done as a school will make such a difference to people’s Christmas.”
