Burnham & Highbridge Karate Club member celebrates black belt success

-

A Burnham and Highbridge Karate Club member is celebrating after achieving his 1st Dan Black Belt.

At a recent Black Belt Grading held at the YMCA in Highbridge, Chris Cheese passed his test with flying colours after years of dedication and regular training to be awarded 1st Dan Black Belt.

Chris is a member of the Burnham & Highbridge Karate Club, which is the longest running martial arts club in the area.

“The grading took place after a special three-hour training session attended by karate students from the south west area,” says a spokesperson.

“The grading involved not only the physical aspect but also a written exam to prove the technical understanding and rounded knowledge of Wado Ryu Karate.”

“Chris had trained in karate as a youngster in Bridgwater and returned to training at the BHKC as an adult starting from the beginning again to achieve his goal.”

Anyone interested in learning Wado Ryu Karate can contact Nick Smith 8th Dan on 07971 679455 for details.

Training venues are St Andrew’s Church Hall in Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday evenings and the YMCA in Highbridge on Sunday mornings. Times vary for juniors and adults separate classes.
