Local children from the Burnham-On-Sea area are starring in a new music video with TV’s Sooty and Sweep to promote a new charity single for Christmas.
The song, called ‘I’m in the mood for Christmas!’, has been filmed in Brean and released to raise funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital charity.
The single is a festive re-working of The Nolans’ 1979 classic song ‘I’m In The Mood For Dancing’. It marks Sooty’s 75th birthday year.
The money raised will help young patients there and make the hospital feel like a home-from-home for children whose treatment needs to continue over Christmas.
Sooty, Sweep and Soo, joined as ever by their local TV companion Richard Cadell, have worked on the new charity single with renowned songwriter Mike Myers, who wrote and produced the original track for the Nolans in the 1970s.
The elaborate music video was partially shot in Brean and features 30 local children from the Burnham-On-Sea and Weston area. Their vocals also feature on the track.
Richard Cadell, Sooty’s right-hand man, said: “75 years is an incredible achievement for Sooty and we wanted to mark the milestone with something really special.”
“What better way than to raise money for the children and their families cared for at GOSH? I’m super pleased with how the song sounds – I think it’s destined to be one of those Christmas tunes that pops up every year!”

“Sooty and his friends have brought joy to families for generations, and the money raised from this song will help staff at GOSH get as many children as possible home, so they too can enjoy a magical Christmas with their loved ones.”
