Met Office explains why the sky turned purple in Burnham-On-Sea

-

The Met Office has explained why skies turned an unusual purple colour in Burnham-On-Sea last night (Thursday).

Readers sent us their photos of the spectacle just before sunset at 4pm when skies turned pink and then purple, lasting around five minutes.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, a Met Office spokesman says: “The unusually pink or purple skies last night were down to quite a simple reason.”

”Particles in the air as part of an Atlantic air mass helped to create this purple hue for many after a weather front crossed over the UK.”

”Coupled with a shelf of cloud to reflect the sun, as well as slower sunsets at this time of year, this means many people had an opportunity to see a purple or pink glow as part of the sunset.”
