Burnham-On-Sea Foodbank has this week received a donation of £800 from Burnham’s Ritz Cinema and a film production company behind a locally-filmed Christmas movie.
‘Christmas At the Holly Day Inn’ had its very first cinema screening at the Ritz Cinema on Saturday November 25th, scheduled to coincide with Burnham-On-Sea Christmas Lights Switch-On when actress Anita Dobson turned on the lights.
A capacity audience headed to the cinema to see the screening. The Ritz Cinema, its staff, and M&M Film Productions kindly decided to donate £800 – their profits from the evening – to a local good cause and picked Burnham and Highbridge Foodbank.
The Foodbank’s Nick Bashford told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “At a time when we are receiving increasing numbers of requests for emergency food, we are delighted to receive this amazing donation which will go directly to supporting the work of our foodbank in our local community.”
Ritz Cinema owners Pat and Beryl Scott said they were “delighted” to be supporting the Foodbank, along with their staff, and film director Monika Gergelova from M&M Film Productions.
Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Foodbank is seeing soaring demand for its service as the cost-of-living crisis hits some local residents.
