Sir Ashley Fox – the Conservatives’ candidate for the new Bridgwater parliamentary seat which includes Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge, Berrow and Brean – has gained the endorsement of former local MP Lord Tom King during a visit.
Lord King served as the MP for Bridgwater from 1970 to 2001 and was a member of Margret Thatcher’s Cabinet from 1983 to 1992 in various capacities. He was made a life peer in 2001 and he now sits in the House of Lords.
Following the local visit, Lord Tom King says: “I am delighted that Ashley has been selected as the Conservative candidate for Bridgwater at the next election. The new constituency includes Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge which I had the honour to represent from 1970-1983. It is interesting that 40 years later the boundary commission is moving the town back into the Bridgwater constituency.”
“It has never been more important that Parliament has Members of experience and proven ability. Ashley is an outstanding candidate, having previously served 10 years as Somerset’s Member of the European Parliament, is a solicitor, and has run his own small business. I have no doubt that he will be an excellent MP for Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.”
Ashley Fox, who was formally selected to represent the Tories in September, adds: “I am very pleased that Lord King has given me his support, I am excited to continue his legacy in delivering for the people of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge.”
“I am looking forward to being a strong voice for Bridgwater, Burnham & Highbridge and all our rural communities. I want to make sure that every part of this new constituency receives its fair share of investment.”
