New Burnham-On-Sea Book Festival to launch next Spring

-

A new Burnham-On-Sea Book Festival is set to be launched next Spring, it has been announced this week.

A literary-minded group which includes local authors Lewis Coleman and Dave Eldergill are set to launch the event in the town on 22nd and 23rd April in Burnham’s Princess Theatre and Burnham Library.

Lewis and Dave say they were chatting and realised that the opportunity to showcase writers in a festival is something that hasn’t been done in Burnham before. After speaking with Beccy Armory at The Princess, the idea to hold a festival was proposed.

“We see the Book Festival as a valuable addition to the flourishing creative community here in Burnham and Highbridge,” says Dave.

“As well as talks from experienced authors, we plan to hold workshops and literary readings, and to support local authors. Watch this space for the line-up!’”

Co-founder Rebecca Coleman adds: “We’d been to a few local writing events, and thought it would be so great to bring something like this to our town.”

“We have already been in touch with various published writers in and around the South West who are keen to support us and come along, and we hope to involve our schools, and library too.”

The organisers also plan to hold a writing competition for writing in several categories: 16’s and above Short Stories; 16’s and above Poetry; Up to 11’s Poetry or prose; 11-16’s Poetry or Prose. Further details will be announced soon. To get in touch with the team, email Burnhambookfestival@gmail.com
