Local councillors Tony Grimes and Bob Filmer have thanked residents for signing a petition which helped them to secure the re-opening of Berrow Beach for parking over the winter.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that the beach will be open to vehicles for parking every day from November 29th through the winter between 10am-3pm.
The councillors met with local residents Rita and Dave at the Berrow Beach Gate with the Petition that Rita had organised to keep the beach access open to vehicles during the winter, as pictured here.
“When we became aware of Sedgemoor’s original decision to close the beach for the Winter we raised the issue with officers at Sedgemoor,” says Bob.
They were both present when Rita presented her petition at the recent Berrow Parish Council meeting and gained the backing of Parish Councillors to seek to reverse this decision.
Bob says: “Having worked with Officers at Sedgemoor, we are so pleased that we have managed to secure the reopening of the beach throughout the Winter months between 10am and 3pm.”
“We understand the Health and Safety concerns the council were trying to address and welcome that they have found the money to allow for a Beach warden to help keep beach users safe.”
“We would also like to thank Rita, Dave and all those involved with the petition, the Berrow Parish Council, local residents and businesses who came together to help Sedgemoor find a solution to this issue.”
The beach is currently open for vehicle access on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays between 10am and 3pm, taking into account tidal conditions.
