New figures show the number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases recorded week-on-week has fallen in Sedgemoor and across Somerset.

Official Government data shows Somerset’s districts have seen decreases in the number of positive tests recorded last week (ending Sunday, October 31st) compared to the previous seven days of between 13.9% and 38.7%.

Across the UK, the total number of positive tests reported last week was 284,058, a reduction of 44,229 (13.5%) from the previous week. However, the number of deaths recorded within 28 days of a positive test in the UK last week was 1,099 – which was 150 (15.8%) more than the previous week.

Compared to the week before, this was a 27.7% decrease in positive tests in the district.

Five people in Sedgemoor died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test last week.

The case rate per 100,000 people in the seven days in all Somerset’s districts was 671.5 which remained above the UK rate of 435.3.

Boris Johnson said over the weekend that he has seen no evidence to indicate that a Christmas lockdown is likely or that there is any reason to activate the Government’s Plan B.
