A drifting yacht with engine failure was rescued by a Burnham-On-Sea RNLI lifeboat crew on Monday morning (October 25th).
The Burnham-On-Sea RNLI volunteers were called out by Coastguards at 9.08am to assist the yacht in the River Parrett, as pictured here.
Burnham’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat ‘Doris Day and Brian’ was speedily launched and the crew intercepted the drifting yacht near the mouth of the River Brue.
A tow was set up and the yacht was taken to a safe berth in the Brue, with assistance from Sailing Club members.
RNLI Helmsman Nick said: “We intercepted the casualty vessel, approximately 30 minutes before high tide. This was an experienced yachtsman, and engine problems can happen at any time. We were happy to assist.”
On completion of service, the lifeboat was recovered at Burnham slipway and returned to the lifeboat station.
A Burnham RNLI spokesman thanked Burnham Coastguards for their assistance.
