New banners in Burnham and Highbridge promote local shopping

New banners are being installed on lamp posts in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge as part of a project to encourage people to ‘shop local’.

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun says: “As part of Sedgemoor’s help for local shops and their customers affected by the pandemic, there will be colourful banners attached to lamp posts in Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge and Bridgwater reminding people to support their local shops and high streets.”

“Research has shown that these colourful outdoor messages remind people to shop local, bearing in mind Covid safety measures.”

This initiative is being funded from the European Regional Development Fund via the Welcome Back Fund.

A Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade spokesperson this week welcomed the banners.

Sedgemoor’s Welcome Back Fund project was allocated up to £284,615 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

The Department for Levelling Up,  Housing & Communities (and in London the intermediate body Greater London Authority) is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund.
