Burnham-On-Sea wins coveted silver award at Britain In Bloom ceremony

-

The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s entry into the national Britain In Bloom competition are this week celebrating after the town won a coveted silver award.

Burnham In Bloom organisers Dave Perrett and Jo Brown received the award, as pictured here, during a ceremony attended by hundreds of people from towns across the region.

Over 400 people attended the south west regional awards event, held at Weston’s Winter Gardens.  It was led by TV’s James Alexander-Sinclair, who has been part of the BBC’s coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show since 2008, and starred in ‘Small Town Gardens’, ‘Gardeners World’, and Netflix’s ‘The Big Flower Fight’.

Britain In Bloom judge visited Burnham-On-Sea in July, as pictured below, when he gave an upbeat assessment on the town’s colourful public flower displays and overall standard.

Jo and Dave are pictured receiving Burnham-On-Sea’s awards from James Alexander-Sinclair and the Mayor of Weston, Cllr James Clayton, at the ceremony.

Burnham In Bloom’s Dave Perrett added this week: “We are pleased to have won a silver award this year and just missed out on the higher award.”

Britain In Bloom judges ‘impressed’ by Burnham-On-Sea during visit

“The judges praised the town centre for being tidy and also praised the flower beds, planters, well-maintained public seating areas, little amount of litter, and good community involvement.”

Our thanks go to all who helped us this year, including Sedgemoor District Council, John Chinn and the team at Burnham Freemasons, plus the Town Council.”

“Areas identified for improvement include removing more weeds from flower beds, more nature conversation such as wildflower verges, improving poorly maintained street furniture, and adopting more composting and rainwater harvesting.”
