Students from King Alfred Sixth Form in Highbridge host ‘Question Time’ event

-

Students from King Alfred Sixth Form Academy in Highbridge had the opportunity to ask a diverse panel a range of questions concerning local, national and international issues on Thursday (June 10th).

There were representatives from the main political parties present and also an environmentalist and a Communist.

The event wad similar in format to the BBC Question Time programme. Back in March, the school’s Jill Dando News reporters interviewed the show’s presenter Fiona Bruce.

The panel featured Dr Liz Payne, from the Communist Party of Great Britain, Joe Maggs from the Labour Party, Emma Gliddon from the Climate Change campaign group, Extinction Rebellion, and Tessa Munt, a Liberal Democrat councillor who served as Burnham’s MP from 2010 until 2015. Mark Shelford, recently elected as the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset, attended.

Ernie Warrender, from the Alliance for Democracy and Freedom and a former UKIP MEO, made up the five strong panel.

Sixth Form student Jacob Kemp said the event had been a great opportunity to quiz the panel on a range of topical issues.

Topics ranged from poverty, climate change, the future of democracy, and the right to protest.

Head of the Sixth Form Jonathan Gaskell said: “We are super proud of all our students for organising and hosting a Question Time event that was up there with the very best.”
