Almost 200 positive Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the latest 24 hour period in Somerset.
The official Government data reveals the county is continuing to see ongoing increases as the pandemic continues.
There were 198 new positive cases in Somerset’s four districts up to 5pm on January 2nd.
Sedgemoor – which includes Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge – saw 72 new positive cases in the 24-hour period, raising the overall tally to 2,845.
The new figures also show Mendip had an increase of 28, bringing its total to 1,750 cases while South Somerset had 27 new cases, bringing its total to 2,805.
Meanwhile, Somerset West & Taunton had the biggest increase during the 24 hour period with 71 new cases.
Somerset is currently in Tier 4 restrictions in a bid to reduce the spread.
The latest R number for the healthcare region of the South West is estimated by the Government to be 1 to 1.2 with a daily infection growth rate range of +1% to +4%.
