Weston Hospicecare are calling on cyclists in the Burnham-On-Sea area to back their brand new virtual fundraising event.
The Big Virtual Cycle carries on the series of virtual events that have proved crucial for the hospice during the Coronavirus lockdown.
It costs £5 to take part as an individual or £10 to take part as a family. There are a variety of distances available for supporters to embrace and challenges must be completed within 30 consecutive days.
This follows the same format as the hospice’s Big Virtual Challenge which attracted 300 people online to take part.
It challenged Weston Hospicecare supporters to run, walk or skip a half-marathon, a full marathon or a 50-mile ultra marathon to raise money for the hospice.
By taking part in The Big Virtual Cycle, supporters will receive an event-branded medal which will either be bronze, silver or gold depending on which distance is picked to take on.
Evidence of covering the distance can be recorded by using an app such as Strava and will need to be send to the Events and Challenges Team upon completion to claim the coveted medals.
Event’s Manager Grace Dibden said: “Many of our amazing Big Virtual Challenge supporters were eager to take on a new challenge, so we’ve launched The Big Virtual Cycle.”
“Of course, it is open to everyone to take part and this is another brilliant way to help fund palliative care given by your hospice’s amazing nurses and doctors.”
“We’ve designed each distance to make it accessible to all but challenging to those who eat up the miles on their bikes. This is a great way to enjoy the summer weather and keep active while all events are suspended. You’ll also be supporting your local hospice too.”
