A Burnham-On-Sea business owner says there have been more people in the town centre since the Government’s easing of the Coronavirus lockdown a week ago.
Colin Morris, who runs GW Hurley newsagent and several other shops in the High Street, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that he is concerned about the increase in visitors.
“There have been a lot more people about in the High Street over the last few days. They are not all locals and they are not spending much,” he says.
“It was busy last weekend, but there was no big surge of visitors. It could be busier on Bank Holiday Monday and over the half term holiday next week.”
He adds: “Most of the shops in the town centre are still closed due to the lockdown so there’s not much for them to see and buy.”
Footfall camera data for the High Street also shows there has been a small uplift in the number of people in the town centre over the past week despite local councils urging visitors to stay away until the end of the lockdown in order to avoid the risk of spreading Coronavirus.
