A Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser has raised over £1,500 for a good cause close to his heart by completing a running challenge.
Mike Whitfield and his friend Mike Vowles have completed a 100-mile run over 30 days in a bid to raise money for The Alzheimer’s Society and dementia.
The duo were often seen running along Burnham seafront as they attempted to complete the challenge by the end of May – which has been met in 24 days.
Mike said: “We were cheered on by close family and friends at the end of the run, which was amazing. The support has been incredible!”
He added: “Since lockdown I’ve not been able to visit my nan who is a resident at Hillview care home and suffers terribly with Alzheimer’s, so I decided to try and do something positive and try and raise some money for The Alzheimer’s Society.”
“I found the 100 miles in 30 days challenge and decided to take it on. I initially set a target of £100 and received over £1,500 in donations which I’m incredibly grateful for.”
“My friend Mike is also doing the miles alongside me, with safe social distancing enforced.”
“As I have not run for many years before, this has been tough, and we have both had slight injuries along the way but have found it very rewarding.”
