Burnham-On-Sea seafront and beach busy, but not crowded, as lockdown eases

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s beach and seafront were busy but there was no mass influx of visitors on the first Saturday after lockdown rules were eased, which comes as local councils ask visitors to stay away.

Beaches, seafronts and car parks in Burnham were busy, but not at full capacity, on Saturday afternoon, as pictured here. In most cases, social distancing was being respected.

The public has been urged to “think twice” before heading to beaches and parks as councils fear a surge in visitors could result in a rise in coronavirus infections, as reported here.

Burnham’s Esplanade car park was busy, pictured below. Few shops and services are open due to the ongoing lockdown.

At Brean Down, the National Trust has closed the steps to the top of the Down to avoid breaches of social distancing, but it has kept open the old military road to the top.

The National Trust car park and beach car park is closed but the Bird Garden opened its car park. A field next to a nearby holiday park, pictured below, was also turned into a car park for drivers willing to pay £4/day.

Cars were also seen parked along the roadway leading up to Berrow Church as people headed to the nearby beach, pictured below.

It is the first weekend since the lockdown rules were relaxed in England, allowing people to spend as much time outdoors as they want “for leisure purposes”, including sunbathing.

There is no longer a limit on how far people can travel and people are also allowed to meet one person outside their household outdoors.
