A community-spirited Burnham-On-Sea lady has made over 400 face masks and other items for NHS staff and frontline carers, raising funds for Weston Hospicecare.
Sandra McEvoy told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It started when I made my mother one to wear on her visits to the oncology department in Bath where she has to go to have treatment every four weeks.”
“I had one as well and it all just started spiraling from there, with friends asking for masks and word of mouth getting round.”
“I have also made key rings and printed bags which we have sent to the hospital for the nurses as well and a number of local frontline, care and key workers.”
“I have made about 400 masks now and have a never-ending list of orders.”
“My mum normally attends Weston Hospicecare in Uphill as a day patient twice a week and, like all charities, they are suffering with the charity shops closed and no fundraising taking place at the moment. So I decided that instead of selling the masks, that I would ask for donations which we will pass onto the Hospice when we can re attend.”
