Burnham-On-Sea fire crews were called out late on Thursday night (April 16th) to tackle a large commercial waste bonfire that was burning out of control.
Crews were called to Bristol Road, Tarnock near Axbridge at 11.55pm after nearby residents reported seeing flames from a distance.
A spokesman said: “Fire Control received calls reporting a large fire coming from farmland late on Thursday evening.”
“A single fire engine from Burnham was quickly mobilised, and upon arrival the crews quickly requested the attendance of a further fire engine and a water carrier.”
“The source of the fire was a very large bonfire that was burning lorry tyres and commercial waste, and had gone out of control.”
“The second fire engine and water carrier were mobilised from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater.
Crews got to work using one main compressed air foam system jet and fire extinguishers. They were able to safely extinguish the fire.”
