Community-spirited residents in Lympsham, near Burnham-On-Sea, are raising money for Weston General Hospital towards the costs of a new ventilator by undertaking a charity walk, run and cycle using their daily exercise allowances.
‘The Lympsham Lockdown Exercise Challenge’ sees residents from over 10 families aiming to complete the distance of John O’Groats to Land’s End, or further!
Spokeswoman Sarah Saxon told Burnham-On-Sea.com:Â “We are hoping that the more people who donate and support the hospital, the greater their chances of being able to access ventilators and PPE equipment will be.”
“There are 10 local families taking part in this virtual challenge. We aim to cover the distance of 874 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End during the next few weeks.”
“We are raising money for Weston General Hospital for vital equipment that is needed during the Coronavirus crisis.”
“It is giving us something positive to focus on each day and is good for the children too as they feel that they are doing something positive to help.”
“We are asking our friends, family and the wider community to show their support for the NHS and donate if possible.”
“This fundraising activity is part of ‘Love Lympsham’, which was set up for community projects and events. In less than 24 hours we raised £195 which is incredible. It was Jim Bishop who came up with the idea when I posted on The Wildlife Wonders page asking if anyone had any fundraising ideas to try and raise money for equipment needed at Weston General.”
“We were originally hoping to put the money towards PPE equipment and we were looking to raise £874 but if we raise more than the money may well go towards a ventilator.”
Jim said £705 has been raised so far with the total mileage during last week being 446.1, which put them somewhere near Kendal in Cumbria, shown on a map pictured below by his son Sam.
They are also having a weekly Lympsham Sheepstake to guess the number of lambs born each week at a local smallholding.
