Illustrated talk about region’s railway heritage to be held in Highbridge this month

-

An illustrated history talk about the region’s rail heritage is set to be held in Highbridge this month.

North Sedgemoor Local History Society is hosting the talk at 7pm on Wednesday 11th December at The King Alfred School Lecture Theatre.

Paul Gregory of the Weston, Clevedon and Portishead Railway Group will be giving a presentation about the rail service.

He says: “The Weston, Clevedon and Portishead Railway was a privately owned light railway linking the three towns, operating from 1897 to 1940.”

“It was quaint, colourful and was operated on a shoestring, always being short of money which added to its character.”

“The talk looks at why the line was built, the motley collection of rolling stock and some of the odd stories which abound. There will be lots of historic photos and a look at the present day.” Visitors are welcome at a charge of £2.
