Fire crews say blaze that destroyed two cars in Burnham was accidental

-

Two cars were destroyed in a dramatic blaze in Burnham-On-Sea’s Love Lane on Saturday (November 30th).

Firefighters from Burnham-On-Sea were called to Love Lane just after 12.30pm when a Mercedes CD1 pulled into a laybay in flames opposite the junctuion with St Peter’s Road.

Within minutes, the blaze had quickly spread to a second vehicle – a VW car parked in front of it.

Fire crews were quickly on scene to battle the blaze and they used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the two blazing cars but neither could be saved.

An ambulance was also called to the scene, but fortunately no-one was injured.  The cause of the incident was assessed to have been accidental.

A fire spokesman said: “Fire control recieved multiple calls of a car on fire and one appliance from Burnham-On-Sea was initially sent. Once in attendance it was clear that this was two cars on fire and a running fuel fire which was heading towards a fence.”

“The incident commander requested the attendance of a second appliance for water. Crews extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet, one 45mm jet, one C02 fire extinguisher, and two breathing apparatus wearers. The cause was deemed to be accidental.”
