Dozens of residents were presented with awards when the annual Burnham In Bloom awards ceremony was held on Friday night (November 22nd).

Over 90 residents and business owners gathered in the Town Council Chambers where trophies and certificates were given to those who helped to brighten up the town with floral displays and artwork over the summer.

Burnham-On-Sea Mayor Cllr Andy Brewer and the Mayor’s Consort Pat Burge were presented with the South West In Bloom silver gilt award, which was awarded to Burnham last month, as reported here. The accolade was handed over by Burnham In Bloom’s Dave Perrett, Jo Brown and Richard Young.

The Mayor thanked those all who had taken part and praised Burnham In Bloom organisers for their work. “I’d like to thank everyone who has won and taken part this year – it’s great to see people of all ages getting involved in helping to make our towns look as colourful as possible. They are all a credit to the towns.”

“It is a great testament to our community that we see such a wide cross-section of people getting involved, from domestic houses to complete roads, businesses, nursing homes, holiday parks and pubs.”

Chairman Dave Perrett also praised the competitors, young and old, and thanked them all for getting involved.

Silver It’s Your Neighbourhood Awards were also won by Sunny Lawns and Pembroke Close while a Golf Award was won by Kathleen Chambers care home.

The Chairman’s Shield for the most points jointly went to Mrs Pam Wing and Mrs Joan Harvey.  The Mayor’s Cup went to Jacqui Strong. And the Neville Jones Decanter, for community effort, was presented to the Friends of Apex Park and Derek Chivers.
