Burnham-On-Sea cake maker Dusica Roberts celebrates prestigious award win

-

Burnham-On-Sea cake maker Dusica Roberts is celebrating this week after winning a prestigious national award.

Cake International is the world’s largest cake competition with 1,800 entries this year and competitors came from as far afield as China to compete.

“There are several categories and I entered one called ‘push the boundaries with sugar innovation’.”

“In this category your piece had to include mechanical movements and sound or light. I created a fairy woodland piece with moving wings, a lighted log ring around her and twinkling vines.”

“It was inspired from different crafts that I’ve taught myself over the years, including ‘mosaic’ which I used on the board and ‘stain glass’ on the wings. The whole design is made from edible sugar and chocolate mediums.”

“I’m delighted to say I achieved a Gold Award for my entry and amazingly also placed first in my class! I’m completely surprised by the result but it’s truly amazing and makes the four weeks of hard work and sleepless nights totally worth it!”

Her winning cake is on display at DusiCake shop at 14 Oxford Street in Burnham-On-Sea for those who’d like to see it up close.
