A grand total of £11,116.87 was collected for lcoal good causes from spectators lining the route of Monday’s Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Carnival.
The figure was down by £1,680 from last year’s total, and was the lowest amount since 2015, but organisers have thanked spectators for their donations.
Annalee New, who oversaw the collection, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The amount was down from £12,769 last year but we are obviously very grateful to all those who donated and turned out to support the entrants. We had 22 local groups and charities collecting this year.”
She says the poor weather forecast had put some people off attending, hitting overall crowd numbers, despite busy scenes.
Also, Annalee says that while there were 22 groups collecting during Monday’s event, the actual number of individual collectors was lower than previous years.
Visitors got to see over 70 entries parade through the town in a spectacle of colour and excitement. Judges awarded the best entry in the entire procession to Gremnlins Carnival Club for its ‘Curse of the Kraken’ cart – see the Burnham-On-Sea 2019 Carnival results.
