Wet weather failed to dampen the spirits of visitors to Burnham-On-Sea’s 15th food festival on Saturday (October 26th).

Large numbers of people headed into the town to see dozens of food and drink stalls plus displays and demonstrations set up in the town centre streets and in three indoor ventures.

Co-organiser Bev Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com she was pleased with the turnout.

“Thank you to all those who visited the festival during what could’ve been quite troubling weather,” she said. “We had a great turnout of visitors and just four last minute trader cancellations.”

“Despite the Met Office’s doom and gloom forecast, people still came and supported their local food and drink festival and local producers.”

Scores of local food and drink producers were present, selling farmers’ markets favourites ranging from beef and lamb, to beers, cheeses, speciality teas and gourmet chocolates.

Market stalls stretched along Princess Street, Victoria Street, College Street and the High Street from Cross Street to Chapel Street.

In between the stalls were local community stands from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and Burnham’s Poppy Appeal.

In the Methodist Church there was a free cook’s school, where families could learn new skills from seasoned professional Chrissie Godfrey. There was also a screen printing workshop in the Baptist Church with Zara Emily.

Outside the Methodist and Baptist churches were DJs providing a laid-back vibe to the festival and free cycle check ups from Griffin Cycles outside The Princess Theatre.

Dotted around the festival were also street entertainers, buskers, face painter and side show games.

The next festival, on Saturday 7th December, will be a Burnham festive food festival.
