Brent Knoll’s village shop plans to close and be converted into private home

-

Brent Knoll’s village shop could be set to fully close down and be converted into private accommodation under formal plans unveiled this week.

The owners of Brent Knoll Post Office in Brent Street, Brent Knoll are seeking full planning permission for a ‘change of use and conversion of the shop into a one bed annexe with a garden area and two parking spaces’.

The plans have been submitted just weeks after Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported that its Post Office counter was closing due to the resignation of the Postmaster.

The owner of the store confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The shop makes a loss and we have struggled for two years now.”

One nearby resident, who asked not to be named, said: “This will be a huge blow to the village.”

”Many elderly residents find it difficult to travel to the supermarkets in Burnham and they will soon have no other option. It’s a sad sign of the times that shops like this are closing.”

Consultation is underway on the plans – reference number 07/19/00028 – by Sedgemoor District Council until November 8th, 2019.
