Brean Beach hosted one of more than 70 nationwide ‘Schnauzerfest’ walks at the weekend with the aim of bringing together schnauzer dogs, their owners and other canine friends.

Despite a wet morning of rain, the Schnauzerfest went ahead on Brean Beach on Sunday 13th October, bringing together scores of enthusiasts.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, organiser Janet Duke said: “It was a really successful event at Brean despite the wet weather, attracting over 100 dogs and their owners.”

She added: “Schnauzerfest is an annual event, made up of many separate walks across the UK all on the same weekend in October.”

“From small walks to larger ones, each takes place with two aims – fun and fundraising.”

Featured in detail on ITV’s Britain’s Top 100 Dogs 2019 earlier this year, Schnauzerfest is now in its 6th year and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

This year, there were over 70 confirmed walks across the UK, spanning from Guernsey to Orkney, Cornwall to Kent, all held to celebrate the schnauzer dog breed.

Since 2014, Schnauzerfest has raised over £160,000, which has all gone to the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre (DBARC) based in Berkshire, who specialise in providing loving care and veterinary treatment for schnauzers who have experienced the terrible conditions of puppy farms and other rough backgrounds. Brean’s event raised over £560.
