New ‘friendship link’ between Burnham-On-Sea and French town moves a step closer

-

A new ‘Friendship Link’ between Burnham-On-Sea and the small French town of Vernouillet to the west of Paris has come a step closer to being formed.

Burnham’s former French twinning group with Louvigne du Desert has recently folded, so a group of Burnham residents have met over the last week to discuss the possibility of forming the new group.

A well-attended open meeting was held in Burnham’s Princess Theatre on Thursday (3rd October) where the proposals will be discussed.

Burnham resident Tony Deahl, who is leading on the plans for a new group, told Burnham-on-Sea.com: “The meeting to discuss forming a Friendship Link with Vernouillet was a great success.”

“More than 40 people from Burnham, Highbridge and Cheddar (Vernouillet’s former twin town) showed interest in setting up a link with possible exchanges in the future.”

“At present, the link will be an informal one but the Mayors of both towns have expressed enthusiasm for it.”

Anyone wishing to be involved, or wanting further information, who missed the meeting should contact Colette Winfield on 01278-238583.
