This is the sad photo of a fourth porpoise that has been found washed up on Brean beach in the space of a month, having died of several injuries.
Marine mammal medics from Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue were called to the beach in Brean just before 1pm on September 12th, where they found the young male mammal had died of “several injuries”.
A BARB Search & Rescue spokesman said: “Our trained Marine Mammal Medics were called to Brean at 12.50pm following reports of a young porpoise being washed up on the tideline.”
“Our team headed to the beach and quickly found the mammal near Brean Down. Sadly, it had suffered several injuries and had died.”
“Our team updated British Divers Marine Life Rescue and HM Coastguard before returning to Burnham.”
A further porpoise was also found washed up at Brean on September 5th, having died of multiple injuries, as we reported here.
And on August 15th, the BARB team was also called to two porpoise found washed up on the same beach.
