Donkey rides have re-started on Burnham-On-Sea beach this week after a four year absence.
Sedgemoor District Council — which oversees beach concessions — formally unveiled the new donkeys on Burnham’s main beach this morning (Monday, August 19th).
Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Moonshine, Robert, Franke, Gerald, Bawble and Brandy were officially welcomed to the beach by Chairman of Council, Councillor Peter Clayton!”
“The donkeys are now available for children to ride, tides and weather permitting, until the end of the holiday season.”
She added: “After seeing the plight of beach-goers following a recent SDC statement that we could not find anyone to fill the beach concession, Craig Harris contacted Sedgemoor to see if he could help with his herd of donkeys.”
“They are well used to pleasing children at local fetes and festivals and we’re told they are looking forward to a breath of sea air!”
