A new fish and chip shop opened in Highbridge’s Church Street on Friday, August 9th.
Owners Charlie Scott, 23, and Michael Cheeseman, 34, are behind the new venture, called the Highbridge Chippy.
It’s based in the same premises that previously belonged to the famous Dennis Moore until he retired in 2009.
Michael, who is head chef at the Fox & Goose pub on the A38 in Brent Knoll, and Charlie, who is general manager of the same pub and restaurant, say they both want to take their experience of serving quality food into takeaway food.
“We have been impressed by the potential in Highbridge, it is clearly going to grow,” said Charlie.
Michael added: “I have always enjoyed traditional quality fish and chips and I am thrilled to be bringing that to Church Street. We peel fresh potatoes and have a chipping machine in the back of the shop. No frozen chips for us or our customers!”
Nick George, 58, who has lived and worked in the area for five years, will be the Highbridge Chippy manager.
The shop has also employed four Highbridge and Burnham locals to wrap the hot food, and work at the till.
George, who has managed food businesses for over a decade, said: “Charlie and Michael are very bright sparks who know exactly what quality British food should be, and on that point we are on common ground. We have also enjoyed a lot of laughs and banter in the process of setting up the Highbridge Chippy. The chippy is a reliable and affordable part of Highbridge and Burnham’s food choices.”
