A bumper turnout of up to 6,000 people headed to Apex Park in Highbridge for its annual Play Day on Wednesday (August 7th).
During a day of sun and heavy showers, families headed to the park to enjoy over 50 free activities, including model boats and trucks, slime making, Fizz Pop Science, face painters, fishing, inflatables, climbing walls, paddle boarding and zorbs for older children.
The Apex Playday, which was opened by Sedgemoor Chairman Cllr Peter Clayton and Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor Cllr Andy Brewer, aims to let parents have a day off from spending their hard-earned money to keep the kids entertained during the holidays while encouraging families to spend quality time together at the park.
Scott Mason, Team Leader for Parks and Open Spaces at Sedgemoor District Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We estimate there were between 5,000 and 6,000 people despite a day of changing weather with sunshine and showers.”
“It all went very smoothly and we received lots of positive feedback. Everyone had loads of fun. It was a mixture of holidaymakers and residents from Burnham-On-Sea, Bridgwater and Weston.”
“Our huge thanks go to all who helped make it a special day. The activities for older children were especially well received this year.”
Sedgemoor District Council contributed £5,000 towards the event, with Sedgemoor staff also attending the committee meetings to assist with key tasks in the months leading up to the event and to help marshall on the day.
