Town councillors have this week decided to maintain their objections against controversial plans for 46 new homes on land next to Walrow in Highbridge.
It comes after the owner of the land lodged an appeal to the Secretary of State to try and overturn the decision made by Sedgemoor District Councillors earlier this year to reject the plans.
At a Town Council meeting on Monday evening (August 5th), councillors decided that all their previous objections about the scheme still stand. It comes after a protest against the plans, pictured below, by local residents earlier this year.
The Town Council has objected on the grounds of inadequate highways access, over-development of the site, road safety concerns, insufficient flood prevention measures, poor infrastructure, and the detrimental impact on wildlife.
The applicant, Flower & Hayes Ltd, wants to turn land to the north of Walrow in Walrow Road into a development of new flats and houses to help meet local needs for new housing.
However, the plans have run into opposition from local people who are concerned at the plans.
“The large number of responses we had about this planning application were almost unprecedented,” said Cllr Andy Brewer at Monday’s meeting.
Cllr Peter Clayton proposed the council continues “all our objections,” which was agreed by fellow councillors during Monday’s meeting.
