A partial lunar eclipse was visible from Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday evening (July 16th).
Up to 60% of the Moon’s surface appeared dark grey at the height of the eclipse at about 10.30pm, as predicted in advance by the Royal Astronomical Society.
Burnham-On-Sea.com took these images from the town’s seafront at the peak of the eclipse.
Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth crosses between the Sun and Moon – casting a shadow on the lunar surface.
During a partial eclipse, some – but not all – of the Moon passes through the darkest area of shadow behind the Earth, the central region called the umbra.
