Two injured in M5 crash near Burnham as 4×4 towing a caravan overturns

-

The M5 motorway was closed between Burnham-On-Sea and Weston-super-Mare on Monday afternoon (July 8th) after a crash caused a caravan to overturn.

Emergency services closed the northbound carriageway between junction 22 at Burnham and junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare after the crash happened at midday.

The incident involved a 4×4 with an attached caravan, which overturned on the northbound side of the motorway.

The air ambulance was seen landing on the closed section of the M5 to help two people who were trapped in the 4×4.

A fire service spokesman said: “One crew from Burnham-On-Sea and two crews from Bridgwater and the rescue tender from Glastonbury attended a car and caravan overturned on the M5.”

“They used hydraulic cutting equipment, stabilisation equipment and low pressure air bags to release two casualties from the vehicle.”

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called at 11.59am about a road traffic incident, reportedly involving two vehicles, on the M5 northbound. We sent an air ambulance, a hazardous area response team, and another paramedic to attend the incident. Two patients were taken to hospital with minor injuries.”
