A 10 year-old boy who interviewed Boris Johnson during his visit to Highbridge’s King Alfred School Academy on Friday has become a social media sensation.

Young Elijah Maxwell asked the Conservative leadership front-runner several questions, including how to deal with seagulls, and the video footage that was posted on Twitter has been viewed 300,000 times!

It captures the moment that Elijah asks Boris whether he could help reduce local seagull problems in Somerset – and Mr Johnson proposes a novel, tongue-in-cheek method to humanely deal with the birds.

Boris Johnson’s visit to King Alfred School in Highbridge also including him unveiling his educations plans, breaking the news to the school’s young Jill Dando News Centre reporters. He told Elijah that he will increase funding for every primary and secondary school to £4.6 billion.
In a two-hour tour to meet students, staff and see excellent teaching in action, Mr Johnson visited the 11-18 King Alfred School Academy along with MP James Heappey.
He also visited a number of classrooms and talked to students about their work. Mr Johnson told reporters that he had come to visit “this wonderful school.”
Principal Nathan Jenkins said afterwards: “We enjoyed welcoming Mr Johnson to our school to meet students and staff. It has been an excellent year and we have many more exciting times to come.”

Neville Coles, Executive Principal at the Priory Learning Trust, which runs the school, added: “We were delighted to welcome Boris to our Trust and to our academy at TKASA. He was charming and generous with his time. A three hour visit!”

“Our only stipulation was that we must have students at the forefront of any visit – so, he answered questions from Elijah Maxwell from St Anne’s Primary (before the Sky News team) including the one about seagulls and he then met our wonderful sixth formers to talk about school funding and mental health.”

“Jack Millier was able to talk about ‘In Charley’s Memory’. This was a day students and staff will never forget and it made no political statement whatsoever.”

“We were able to make the case to Boris about school funding and Elijah got the news first – a great scoop.”

“Social media has been superb and we are hugely honoured that James Heappey asked TKASA to host potentially our next Prime Minister.”
