A parade with a record number of local veterans, service charities and cadet groups is set to take place through Burnham-On-Sea town centre today (Saturday, June 29th) to mark Armed Forces Day.
Co-ordinated by Burnham’s Royal British Legion, the various groups will assemble for the parade outside Burnham’s Princess Theatre, where it will march off at 12.30pm.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, organiser John Crosby from Burnham’s Royal British Legion said: “The parade will include local veterans, Royal British Legion members, our MP, and local cadets from the Navy, Army and RAF plus members of the Coastguard, RNLI and BARB.”
“We encourage residents to come out and support them as the parade moves along the High Street, then heads southwards to the junction of Abingdon Street.”
“A short ceremony will be held next to the town fountain, to include a flag-raising ceremony, which will be led by Somerset’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Brigadier Tom Lang, plus Burnham’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, Bill and Frances Hancock.”
