Hundreds of cyclists rode into Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday evening (June 22nd) during an annual coast-to-coast cycling challenge.
Hundreds of riders took part in the 205-mile cross-country Chase The Sun event that saw riders leave the Isle of Sheppey in Kent at sunrise at 4.39am before heading to Burnham before sunset.
Among those welcoming the riders were Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Brewer and Lorna Brewer, Town Crier Alastair Murray and Deputy Mayor Cllr Nick Tolley, plus families o the cyclists and local residents, as pictured here.
It’s the 11th year that the event has been held, and organiser Simon Steggles told Burnham-On-Sea.com that it continues to grow in popularity.
“The majority of the riders arrived around 8.30-9.30pm – their objective is to complete the distance before the sun sets at 9.33pm so there are always a lot of cyclists at that point. The riders finish their ride at the jetty and take their photo with the sun setting.”
