A Highbridge resident has thanked a “fantastic” group of King Alfred School Academy students for doing an “amazing job” in retrieving two escaped dogs this week.
Lynne Hutchinson says their quick thinking on Wednesday afternoon at 3.30pm in Burnham Road helped to ensure the pets were safely moved into a garden, preventing a “potentially awful” incident in the road.
She explains: “I opened my front door and heard a dog barking in my neighbour’s garden and we saw several students by her gate so went over to them. They explained that two dogs had been running loose, just missing traffic in the road.”
“They’d managed to get them both into my neighbour’s garden and held the gate shut, which was great thinking. Then one of them escaped again and ran across road, but Police at the nearby garage held that one.”
“The students also got the owner’s number from a dog tag and phoned the owner. I was so impressed with the group. They cared, they put themselves out, gave up their time to ensure the dogs were safe and held them there.”
“They used so much initiative. They were brilliant, charming students and I would be so grateful and not be able to thank them enough if it was my dogs. The owner did eventually turn up and the dogs were reunited.”
