26 residents take up Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club’s free blood pressure checks

-

Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club and The Stroke Association have joined forces to help raise awareness of one of the biggest risk factors for stroke: high blood pressure.

Despite the poor weather, total of 26 residents of Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge and the surrounding area took time to have a free blood pressure test on Saturday (27th April) at The Baptist Church Hall in College Street.

Burnham on Sea Rotary President Ashley Edwards said: “Burnham Rotary were pleased to have hosted the free blood pressure tests at The Baptist Church Hall on Saturday, attended by 26 people. Stroke strikes every five minutes in the UK, but with events like these, we hope to change this.”

“A blood pressure test is quick and painless, and it could save your life. We are grateful to the two nurses who carried out the blood pressure tests, and to The Baptist Church for the use of their Hall.”

Alexis Wieroniey, Deputy Director for Policy and Influencing at the Stroke Association, added: “High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and it’s much more common than people think. That’s why we urged as many Sedgemoor residents as possible to have theirs checked at the Burnham Rotary’s event. A blood pressure check only takes a moment, and it’s such a simple way to reduce your risk of a stroke.”

In addition to the event that took place on 27 April, there will be blood pressure checks at community events throughout the year. To find your nearest blood pressure event, you can visit www.stroke.org.uk/kybp
