Mud safety scare for family on Brean beach prompts call-out for crews

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s rescue hovercraft and Coastguards were called out on Saturday evening (April 20th) amid concern for the safety of a family seen wading through mud on Brean beach.

BARB and Coastguards were called out just before 5.40pm when the beach warden raised the alarm – but fortunately the group of three people managed to get back to safety.

A BARB spokesman said: “Our volunteers were called out by Coastguards at 5.39pm today after reports of three people in difficulty in mud on Brean beach.”

“As our crews were arriving at our seafront station, we received an update that the people had fortunately made it back to the hard sand safely, so no further action was required.”

“This was a positive outcome to what could have been a serious incident given that the tide was coming in quickly at the time.”

The spokesman added that it served as fresh reminder about the importance of staying away from soft sand and mud, keeping to the hard sand.
