Highbridge furniture store Sopha is to hold its Grand Opening today (Saturday 27th April) with a special community day.
The new furniture store, which stands on the site of the old George Hotel on the A38 in Highbridge, took two and a half years to build and renovate.
The store went through a process of ‘soft launching’ in November 2018 and has been training its staff and putting together the finishing touches before the official opening celebration.
Today’s community grand opening event, scheduled from 10.30am to 5.30pm, will see the Bank Street Car Park free for the day where live music and entertainment, street food and a craft fair will take place.
The opening ceremony is to be carried out in the presence of Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor.
The event co-ordinated with the assistance of Silver Spur Events will also see rides and inflatables for the younger ones plus visits from BARB and the Burnham Fire Brigade are planned.
The first 100 customers will receive a free gift bag plus a raffle will see hundreds of pounds worth of prizes given away.
The day will also see the first stage of the launch of Sopha’s summer range plus a warehouse clearance and a range of special offers will be available for the day. Some furniture manufacturers will also be making an appearance in store for locals to ‘meet the makers’.
As well as taking place in Sopha’s large car park and the store itself, the event will also take over part of Bank Street. Access to the Bank Street car park will be from Market Street only, parking will be free for those visiting the event.
Founders Matt & Emily Scott said: “After almost three years of hard work on our building we’re really pleased to be able to officially declare our store open. It means so much to us that we’re a furniture store with a difference and we’re really looking forward to giving something back to the local community. We’d love to see as many people as possible coming for what we hope will be a great day out.”
“In the lead up to the event and over the bank holiday weekend we will have a number of one-off offers on some of our existing ranges to make space for our new summer collections. We can’t wait to see everyone on the day!”
Sopha is a furniture store that aims to do things differently. Owned and run by husband and wife team Matt & Emily Scott, it sells handmade beds, furniture and home stuff.
Sopha aims to put ethics before everything they do; no dishonest sales or artificial discounts. Furniture is bespoke & exclusive whenever possible, replacing the dull brands usually found in furniture stores.
The store sits on the site of The George Hotel a 16th Century coaching Inn and incorporates a cafe and large showrooms. The entire store has been made fully accessible to wheelchair users.
Matthew Scott has many years experience in the industry having previously worked alongside his father Tony Scott at Scott’s Home Furnishers in Burnham before Tony sold his interest in the business back in the Summer of 2015.
The name ‘Sopha’ comes from what is thought to be the original Parisian spelling of the commonly used term ‘Sofa’.
