Plans to open a new desserts restaurant in Burnham-On-Sea town centre specialising in Belgian waffles, crepes, cheesecake, cakes and ice creams to replace a former building society building have this week been approved by town councillors.
At a meeting of the Town Council’s Planning Applications Committee on Wednesday evening (April 10th), councillors supported the application, which was first reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The premises at 14 College Street was formerly home to the Britannia Building Society and then the Co-operative Bank until it closed in 2016, as reported here.
The new owner has submitted a planning application to Sedgemoor District Council for “a change of use of a former building society premises to a restaurant.”
Cllr Andy Brewer told Wednesday’s meeting: “It’s really encouraging to see a new business like this opening, retaining a retail property in the town centre.”
Cllr Nick Tolley agreed: “We are short of businesses in Burnham and to see a person being brave enough to create a new one like this is very refreshing. I fully support this and look forward to visiting it!”
Councillors supported the planning application – reference number 11/19/00033 – but the final decision rests with Sedgemoor District Council.
