Police say dog ‘will be muzzled and on a lead in public’ following Burnham attack

-

Police have agreed a ‘Dog Behavioural Contract’ with the owner of an English Bull Terrier that was involved in an attack in Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend.

As reported here, the incident took place near St Andrew’s Church on Saturday (March 23rd) when the pet owner was walking her Cocker Spaniel on a lead. The terrier clamped onto her Cocker Spaniel’s leg and it took three people, and the owner, to prise the dog’s jaw off and free the distressed, injured animal.

Police spokeswoman Jenny Bigwood told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday evening: “We have agreed a Dog Behavioural Contract with the owner of the English Bull Terrier involved in the incident.”

“The owner has agreed that the dog will be muzzled and on a lead in public at all times.”

She added: “Neighbourhood officers are working with the Dog Warden following the incident in which the owners of a spaniel suffered minor injuries when their pet was attacked by the off-lead terrier.”

“Police investigate when a person is injured by a dog, while the dog warden looks into incidents in which a dog attacks another dog.”
